Visit the Jacquet River Salmon Barrier in Belledune and experience conservation efforts to protect this important species

The Atlantic Salmon lifecycle represents a remarkable and dangerous journey from birth river to the farthest reaches of the ocean and back again, year after year. During your visit to the Jacquet River Salmon Barrier, you discover more about the mysterious journeys of the salmon while you do your part to support conservation.

Garbed in your hip waders, life jacket, and protective gear, you wade out into the river with the currents swirling around you. At the barrier you help the staff meticulously measure the fish and record information about them. Then you tend to the smaller ones, helping to transport them up the river in a canoe. You also pitch in to help with ongoing repairs to the barrier itself so the conservation work can continue.

Back at the site experience centre, you can sample succulent Atlantic smoked salmon treats with homemade bread and refreshments to complete your snack. Fully satisfied, you will have an opportunity to buy keepsakes and souvenirs before saying goodbye.
